I was exposed to check lists from an early age and in my first job as a “Girl Friday” in the family business, it was here that the “official” CHECK LIST foundation was laid. My mom used check lists for everything from work related items, to social events, to school activities – the list never ending. I learnt from the best check list maker in the world.
As I matured, I started to find my “own” check list methodology coming through in my work, socially and in all aspects of life – I was simply building on the solid foundation that had been laid, enhancing something that was already good from the start and resulting in the CLIP system covered in my book.
Throughout my years in the business world and the world of volunteers that I work with, I have been renowned for the use of check lists and related to that the reputation of always being on time, thorough and reliable – check lists making it happen for me.
It seems so obvious, so simple, yet less than 5% of us use them, thinking they will take more time – yet they SAVE us so much time, which means they SAVE US MONEY TOO!
My dad was strict, to say the least. When he said “my girl, what you need in life is a good name and common sense”, he really meant it and you did all in your power to see that you had those two characteristics within you. Check lists became a huge part of my life from a very early age, although basic in younger years and more detailed as time went on – they made sure that I did things timeously and in doing that my “good name” was preserved throughout my life.
SO HERE I PRESENT TO YOU – THE CLIP SYSTEM – CHECK LISTS FOR IMPROVED PRODUCTIVITY AND YOU ARE WELCOME TO REFER TO ME AS … THE TERMINATOR – OF BAD ADMIN HABITS, AS SO MANY OF MY CLIENTS DO.
